
PIROJPUR, July 28: The 8th death anniversary of valiant Freedom Fighter (FF) Major (Retd.) Ziauddin Ahmed, sub-sector commander of the Sundarbans region under Sector 9 during the Liberation War, was observed with solemnity in the Pirojpur town on Monday.
A series of day-long programmes were held to mark the occasion, organized by Aftab Uddin College- an institution founded by Ziauddin Ahmed.
The observance began in the morning with participants wearing black badges and offering floral tributes to the portrait of the late war hero on the college premises. A mourning rally was brought out from the college and paraded through the main roads of the town, culminating at the family graveyard where Ziauddin is buried alongside his parents and relatives. Floral wreaths were placed on his grave, followed by a special prayer session.
A commemorative discussion was held at the college auditorium, presided over by Principal Shahdeb Chandra Paul. Among others, Governing Body Chairman Md. Saidul Islam Kismot, FF Ranjit Kumar Gharoi, and college teachers Kazi Enayet Hossain, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Md. Ali, and Sherina Afroj spoke at the event.
Later in the day, food was distributed among residents of the government orphanage in Pirojpur, and special prayers were offered for the departed soul.
Freedom fighters, teachers, students, journalists, and members of civil society took part in the commemorative programmes.
Major Ziauddin Ahmed passed away in 2017 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
