Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) celebrated its University Day on Thursday with a vibrant mix of academic, cultural, and community events, honoring its journey of excellence in veterinary and animal sciences.

The celebrations began with a colorful procession at 8:30 AM, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman and attended by students, faculty, alumni, and staff. A ceremonial cake-cutting followed in front of the administrative building.

Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar addressed the gathering virtually as chief guest, urging students to uphold responsibility and integrity. “Use your freedom wisely,” he said. “Be politically aware but not politically used. Let your character guide others.”

VC Prof. Rahman highlighted CVASU’s transformation into a globally competitive institution, citing its modern curriculum, high-tech labs, and international partnerships. “We are delivering world-class education in veterinary and animal sciences,” he said.

The program was chaired by Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rashedul Alam. Guests included deans of various faculties, Proctor Prof. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, and Bangladesh Open University VC Prof. ABM Obaidul Islam, who gave the inaugural address.

Community-centered initiatives were a core part of the day, including a tree plantation drive, free veterinary and fish health camps, blood donation and group testing, a wellness campaign, and a student-led One Health program. Evercare Hospital also hosted a free health camp for students and staff.

The day concluded with a cultural program and formal dinner.

University Day marks the passage of the CVASU Act by the National Parliament in 2006, upgrading the former Chittagong Government Veterinary College—established in 1995–96—into a full-fledged public university. The day stands as a tribute to CVASU’s ongoing commitment to education, research, and public service.
