Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 8.9 kilograms of smuggled silver in a dawn operation near the Damurhuda border area in Chuadanga on Saturday morning.

A patrol team from the Jagannathpur Border Outpost, acting on intelligence, was deployed to the Ishara Mor area under the Chuadanga-6 Battalion. Around 5:00 AM, two men on a motorcycle were spotted approaching the border. When challenged, they fled on foot into a nearby jute field, leaving behind the vehicle.

A search revealed the silver hidden in a secret compartment of the motorcycle. The total value of the seized silver—along with the vehicle—is estimated at Tk 21.95 lakh.

Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Hasan, commander of BGB’s Chuadanga-6 Battalion, confirmed the seizure and said a case has been filed with Damurhuda Police Station. The confiscated silver is being processed for deposit at the Chuadanga Treasury.

The operation highlights BGB’s continued efforts to combat cross-border smuggling.
