ACC launches probe into money, property transactions linked to ‘Unfinished Memoirs’

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken cognizance of allegations that former IGP Javed Patwari and 123 others received cash and flats in exchange for writing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's unfinished autobiography, titled "The Unfinished Memoirs".

The commission has also initiated an intelligence-gathering operation in connection with the case.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development during a press briefing on Sunday (August 17).

The book, published in 2012, was reportedly edited from four old notebooks of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It chronicles key historical events, including the Pakistan movement and the language movement, and has frequently been cited by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in public speeches.

Recent media reports, however, claim that the book was actually authored by former police chief Javed Patwari and a team of 123 members, who allegedly received government positions, cash, and flats in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi, Bashundhara, and Mirpur areas, each valued at millions of taka, for their work.

The alleged transactions were reportedly overseen directly by Hasina’s adviser Salman F. Rahman.

The ACC has begun an inquiry into these claims as part of its anti-corruption mandate.
