NATORE, Jan 18: In absence of adequate industrial plots, the district office of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) cannot expand its industrial area.
As a result, it has been impossible to set up new industries within its area at Dattapara.
On the other hand, the owners of the existing industries, who are in the BSCIC area at present, cannot increase the size of their respective industries and businesses due to want of accommodation. In this way, employment opportunities and local development are seriously being hampered, sources said.
Deputy Manager of BSCIC Bazlur Rashid informed that a total of 31 applications have been submitted to his office for building new industries at Natore BSCIC area. But the problems cannot be solved for lack of land allotment.
He further said that he had applied to the concerned ministry on January 6, 2008 for expanding the area of the BSCIC. Later, a team of the Planning Commission visited the region on September 21, in the same year. But no decision has been taken till Wednesday.
Trader of the BSCIC area Motiar Rahaman informed that the area of Natore BSCIC needs extension. Many have applied for the allotment of plots. But they are not getting the allotment for shortage of land.
The BSCIC was built on 15 acres of land at village Dattapara under Baroharishpur union in the district in 1987. About 47 factories were built here at the 104 plots within the year 2000. At present there is no place for setting up new establishment.
