The admission process for Dhaka Central University has officially begun, marking the first academic activity of the newly formed institution.
The entry test for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences was held on Friday, simultaneously across all seven of its affiliated government colleges.
This milestone event signifies the launch of a long-awaited reform in Bangladesh’s higher education system. The exams will be conducted under strict supervision to ensure transparency and fairness.
AKM Elias, the Interim Administrator of Dhaka Central University, will visit the examination center at Dhaka College to oversee the process and assess on-site arrangements.
The establishment of Dhaka Central University was approved by the Government General University Branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on 9 July 2025, paving the way for admissions for the 2024–2025 academic year.
The university was formed in response to years of student protests over mismanagement, lack of autonomy, and irregularities in the previous affiliation system. Since 2017, these seven prominent government colleges had been affiliated with Dhaka University, but growing dissatisfaction led the government to dissolve that arrangement and create a dedicated university to govern them.
The seven constituent institutions are Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Government Bangla College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Government Titumir College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
By unifying these colleges under a single administrative and academic framework, the government aims to enhance educational quality, streamline management, and ensure greater accountability and equity in student admissions and academic delivery.
Friday’s admission test represents a new beginning in public higher education in Dhaka—one focused on reform, efficiency, and student-centered governance.
