BRAHMANBARIA, often referred to as the "Cultural Capital of Bangladesh," is renowned for its rich tradition in art, literature, and music. The district has produced legendary classical musicians, most notably Ustad Alauddin Khan. Historically, the district is also famous for its fine muslin during the Mughal era.

On the industrial front, Brahmanbaria is a significant economic hub, hosting the country's largest natural gas reserve, Titas Gas Field, along with a major power plant. The district's identity is deeply tied to its rivers, especially the Titas River, which is central to local livelihood, particularly fishing, and has been immortalised in Bangladeshi literature.

Formed as a separate district in 1984, Brahmanbaria consists of nine upazilas and six parliamentary constituencies. Historically, the Awami League (AL) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been the main competitors, with the Jatiya Party (JaPa) maintaining a role as the third force. Between 2009 and 2023, AL dominated five of these constituencies.

However, after the political upheaval of 2024, which saw the departure of Sheikh Hasina and key AL leaders, the party is now virtually absent from the district. This has set the stage for a direct contest between BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

Across all six constituencies, the campaign field has become active, with candidates and aspirants already engaging in rallies, public meetings, and door-to-door campaign. Supporters of BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), and Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) are actively campaigning in their respective areas.

Jamaat formally declared candidates in all constituencies on May 31 while IAB announced candidates in four constituencies on July 15 during a press conference at Brahmanbaria Press Club. Meanwhile, Khelafat Majlish nominated its candidates on July 17. GOP has maintained steady activity whereas JaPa has remained largely inactive. Neither Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) nor other smaller parties have made visible moves on the ground.

BRAHMANBARIA-1: This constituency comprises 13 union councils in Nasirnagar Upazila.
In the controversial 2024 elections, Ekramuzzaman, former adviser to the BNP Chairperson, contested as an independent candidate and emerged victorious.

For the upcoming elections, BNP has multiple aspirants. Prominent among them are Advocate Kamruzzaman Mamun, President of the District Bar Association and Vice-President of the District BNP, who enjoys popularity both within the grassroots and among the party high command. Other contenders include M.A. Hannan, President of Nasirnagar Upazila BNP; District BNP leader Shafiqul Islam; and Journalist Abdal Ahmed.

From Jamaat-e-Islami, A.K.M. Aminul Islam, a member of the District Majlis Shura, has been declared candidate. Since his nomination, he has actively campaigned through public meetings, neighbourhood visits, and other grassroots activities.

IAB has fielded Hafiz Maulana Hussain Ahmad Azadi, Nasirnagar Upazila President. Khelafat Majlish has nominated Maulana Saifullah bin Ansari, a District Executive Committee member, as its candidate. Both are conducting local campaigns to build their political presence.

BRAHMANBARIA-2: This parliamentary area covers nine unions in Sarail Upazila  and eight in Ashuganj Upazila.

This constituency has traditionally been a BNP stronghold.

In 2008, the JaPa briefly captured this seat while in 2018, BNP candidate Advocate Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan won and became Member of Parliament (MP).

He resigned from the position on 11 December 2022, citing dissatisfaction with party decisions, and later formally left BNP on 29 December 2022; he has been re-elected MP as an independent candidate in the follow-up by-election on 8 February 2023.

Currently, BNP's International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumin Farhana is considered a top aspirant. She has strong support both at the grassroots and among party leadership and is actively engaging with voters through meetings and rallies.

Other BNP figures involved in outreach include Sheikh Mohammad Shamim, Central Committee Member; former student leader Ahsan Uddin Khan Shipon; Advocate Nuruzzaman Laskar Tapu, General Secretary of Sarail Upazila BNP; S.N. BRAHMANBARIA-3: This constituency encompasses Sadar and Bijoynagar upazilas.
This seat has multiple BNP aspirants. Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamol, Central Economic Secretary of BNP and District President, is widely considered the likely nominee. Dr. Toufiqul Rahman Mithil may also seek nomination.

Jamaat's declared candidate is Md. Junaid Hasan, Assistant Secretary and Shura Member.
IAB has nominated Maulana Gazi Niyazul Karim, District Secretary, as its candidate.

BRAHMANBARIA-4: This constituency includes Kasba and Akhaura Upazilas-encompassing 10 unions of Kasba and five unions along with two municipalities of Akhaura.

It is another hotly contested seat.

BNP's heavyweight candidate is experienced parliamentarian Mushfiqur Rahman, two-time MP and Adviser to the BNP Chairperson. Party leaders stress that candidates with clean records and active involvement in political movements should be favoured, reflecting public expectation.

Other potential BNP aspirants include Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, District BNP Member; Nasir Uddin Hazari, former Central Jubo Dal leader; and former student leader Engineer Md. Nazmul Huda Khandakar.

Jamaat has declared Md. Ataur Rahman Sarkar, Media and Publicity Secretary, Dhaka Metropolitan North branch, as its candidate.
IAB has nominated Mufti Jasim Uddin, District Adviser, as its candidate.

Khelafat Majlish's candidate is Maulana Zainal Abedin, District Adviser, while GOP has nominated District Joint General Secretary Fakruddin Molla as its candidate.

BRAHMANBARIA-5: This constituency covers only Nabinagar Upazila of the district comprising 21 unions and one municipality.
In this seat, there are several BNP aspirants. The most prominent among them is Kazi Nazmul Hossain Tapas, son of former MP Kazi Anwar Hossain. Other candidates include Md. Sayedul Haque Saeed, Member of the National Executive Committee, BNP; Takdir Hossain Md. Jasim, Member of the National Executive Committee, BNP; Advocate Abdul Mannan, President of Nabinnagar Upazila BNP; K.M. Mamunur Rashid, Joint Secretary of Central Krishak Dal, BNP; and Rajib Ahsan Chowdhury Pappu, Vice-President of Nabinnagar Upazila BNP.

Jamaat has declared Advocate Abdul Baten, Executive Member, Supreme Court branch, as its candidate.

IAB's candidate is Professor Mahbubur Rahman, Presidium Member, while Khelafat Majlish has nominated Maulana Abdul Qayum Faruki, Chairman of the Nabinagar Upazila branch, as its candidate.

GOP candidate Kazi Gaziur Rahman Tanvir, District General Secretary, is also active.

BRAHMANBARIA-6: This constituency incorporates Bancharampur Upazila comprising 10 unions and one municipality.
This seat has a heavyweight BNP aspirant Abdul Khalek, retired DIG (Deputy Inspector General) and former MP in the  8th  Jatiya Sangsad election in 2001.

Other BNP figures working for nomination include Mehedi Hasan Palash, Central Krishak Dal leader; Rafique Sikder, Central BNP leader; and Supreme Court lawyer, Advocate Zia Uddin Zia, Member of the Central Executive Committee and Advisor to District BNP.

Jamaat's declared candidate is Dewan Md. Nakibul Huda, Chairman of Bancharampur Social Development Organization, as its candidate.

Zonayed Saki, Chief Co-ordinator of Ganosanhati Andolan, might be a candidate in this constituency.
IAB has selected Kazi Mohammad Ali, Upazila Vice-President, as its candidate while Khelafat Majlish has nominated Maulana Abdul Majid, Chief Adviser of Bancharampur Upazila branch.

As the parliamentary elections draw near, candidates and aspirants from various parties have already begun canvassing across the district. Campaign banners and posters now cover major areas, and candidates are attending social and community events to maintain visibility. Party committees are organizing events to keep their supporters engaged.

Voters in the district have expressed concerns about urban issues: footpath encroachment causing traffic jams, unauthorised occupation of canals leading to water-logging, blocked ponds limiting fire-fighting water supply, and the construction of high-rise buildings on public land. Some former MPs allegedly used their influence to seize land for private businesses and markets.

Voters have voiced that they will support candidates who can address these issues through proper canal excavation, planned drainage, urban development, traffic management, law enforcement, and the removal of illegal encroachments-ultimately restoring public safety, economic opportunity, and quality of life.
