The Bangladesh Embassy in Athens hosted a cultural and diplomatic session titled “Bangladesh – A Land of Resilience” for members of the International Women’s Club (IWC) on Wednesday.

The event, held at Bangladesh House, brought together 40 distinguished women of diverse nationalities residing in Greece.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Greece, Mrs. Nahida Rahman Shumona, welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening people-to-people ties. She emphasized Bangladesh’s journey of resilience, progress, and democratic spirit.

First Secretary Ms. Rabeya Begum presented an infographic tour of Bangladesh, covering the nation’s rich history, the July Mass Uprising against authoritarian rule, and the country’s achievements in overcoming natural and economic challenges. Special focus was given to reforms under the interim government led by Hon. Chief Advisor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, which promoted inclusive growth and sustainability.

The session also highlighted Bangladesh’s Three Zero approach—zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero carbon emissions—alongside narratives of youth potential and cultural resilience. A curated exhibition of photographs and graffiti from the July Uprising 2024 offered a visual chronicle of civic courage and the democratic movement. Ambassador Shumona explained the significance of the displayed works, illustrating the unity and determination of Bangladeshi students during the uprising.

Guests also experienced Bangladesh’s artisanal heritage through displays of Jamdani sarees, Manipuri textiles, ceramics, leather goods, and embroidered quilts, reflecting the country’s creative economy.

The event concluded with a traditional Bangladeshi lunch featuring biryani, kabab, lentils, rosogolla, and tea. True to Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainability, the gathering was conducted as a zero-waste event with no plastic usage.

Ms. Aziza Essalouani, President of IWC, along with other dignitaries, expressed gratitude to Ambassador Shumona for organizing the engaging and memorable event.

The initiative underscored Bangladesh’s image as a resilient, forward-looking nation and strengthened cultural and diplomatic ties with the international women’s community in Greece.
