Asif Akbar, representing Cumilla District Sports Association, is set to be elected unopposed as a director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from Chattogram Division in the upcoming BCB elections scheduled for October 6.

Wednesday marked the final day for candidates to withdraw their nominations, with the deadline set at 12 noon.

By that time, 16 candidates; including national team cricketer Tamim Iqbal, had officially withdrawn from the race.

Among those stepping aside was Mir Helal Uddin, the nominee from Chattogram District Sports Association. His withdrawal leaves just two valid candidates from Chattogram Division: Asif Akbar (Cumilla District Sports Association) and Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury (Chattogram Divisional Sports Association).

With no other contenders from the division, both Asif and Ahsan Iqbal are now set to be elected unopposed as BCB directors.

In the previous three terms, the director positions from this division were held by Akram Khan and AJM Nasir.
