The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Tuesday approved a proposal for direct government-to-government procurement of e-passport booklets and related training under the project titled “Introduction of E-Passport and Automated Border Control Management in Bangladesh.”

The decision was taken at a meeting held at Cabinet Division’s conference room, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

Home Ministry submitted the procurement proposal at an estimated cost of Tk 1,692 crore, with Germany-based Veridos GmbH selected as the supplier after being assessed as a responsive bidder.

Following the meeting, Dr Salehuddin told reporters that the government plans to issue nearly one crore new passports to address rising demand and expedite the passport-processing system.

He added that around 6.5 million supplementary documents will also be supplied under the contract.
