Bangladesh climbs three places in FIFA World Ranking

Bangladesh carved a poetic chapter in their footballing journey on Tuesday night, defeating India 1-0 in Dhaka and ending a 22-year drought against their neighbours. By Wednesday night, the victory carried even greater resonance as the latest FIFA World Rankings confirmed a notable rise where Bangladesh climbed three places from 183rd to 180th, their highest position in nine years.

The team's points increased from 894.06 to 911.19, a gain of over 17 points that underscores the weight of the triumph.
On the other hand, at the very top of the FIFA World Ranking, Spain continues to reign supreme, followed by Argentina, France, England, and Brazil. These are followed in the top ten by Portugal (6th), Netherlands (7th), Belgium (8th), Germany (9th), and Croatia (10th).

For Bangladesh, the ascent is especially striking when viewed against the team's recent struggles. Only a few months ago they lingered around 184th, and as recently as mid-2018 had fallen to 197th, their lowest-ever FIFA standing. Their historic best remains the 110th position achieved in April 1996, a reminder of the heights once scaled and the ambition still alive within the national programme.

Encouragingly, the momentum extends beyond the men's side. Bangladesh's women have also scripted history by qualifying for the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup for the first time. Their achievement was accompanied by a remarkable 24-place jump in the women's FIFA rankings recently, lifting them to 104th globally.
