JOYPURHAT, Nov 30: In the Joypurhat District Lawyers' Association election, Advocate Abdul Momin Fokir, nominated by Bangladesh Lawyers' Council from the Jamaat-backed panel, was elected president with 93 votes.
Advocate Shahidul Islam, nominated by Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum (BNLF) from the BNP-backed panel, won the general secretary post with 100 votes.
Out of 205 registered voters, 201 cast their ballots.
From the BNP-backed BNLF panel, Khairul Ahsan Sakhidar Jewel was elected Vice-President with 128 votes, Advocate AKM Abu Sufian Palash won the Joint Secretary post with 143 votes, Advocate Golam Mowdud Shahriar secured the Finance Secretary post with 105 votes, and Hasanuzzaman Nannu was elected entertainment, sports, cultural and social welfare secretary with 106 votes.
Several positions were filled uncontested from the BNP-backed panel: Abdul Mumin Hamidul as Audit Secretary, Nur-e-Alam Siddique as library and publicity secretary, and members Soheli Parveen, Golam Mowla, and Firoz Ahmed.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Abdur Rahman Sarkar, assisted by Nur Nabi Mallik and Ashraf Ali, announced the results at 6:30pm after voting concluded.
