Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus hosted a reception for the winners of ‘Begum Rokeya Padak 2025’ at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday evening.
This year’s awardees are Dr. Rubhana Rakib, Nabila Idris, Kalpana Akter and Ritu Parna Chakma.
During the event, the award recipients expressed concern over the recent attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, convenor of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate from Dhaka-8, urging the government to take strong action.
Prof. Yunus described the attack as premeditated and said he is maintaining close contact with Hadi’s family while coordinating with political parties for support.
Kalpana Akter, recognized for her work in women’s and labour rights, thanked the Chief Adviser for amending labour laws and ratifying International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.
She noted that under the previous regime, she faced harassment through 14 cases, including accusations in unrelated incidents, highlighting the significance of this recognition for her work.
Prof. Yunus praised her as a strong advocate for justice and labour rights, noting that these issues were a key priority of his administration.
Dr. Rubhana Rakib briefed the Chief Adviser on the current challenges faced by ICDDR,B following the cessation of foreign aid, particularly regarding the Rohingya population.
Ritu Parna Chakma updated him on National Women’s Football Team, including training, accommodation and player development.
Prof. Yunus emphasized the importance of inspiring the next generation through their achievements.
Nabila Idris, awarded in the human rights category, thanked Prof. Yunus for initiating the trial process for enforced disappearances, calling it a historic step toward justice.
The Chief Adviser commended her determination and commitment to raising awareness on human rights issues.
As part of the event, Prof. Yunus presented his book, “Beltoil Gramer Jorimon, O Anyannora”, highlighting the economic struggles and lives of rural women, to all four awardees.
The reception was attended by Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S. Murshid, SDG Principal Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed and Senior Secretary of Women and Children Affairs Mamtaz Ahmed.
