LAXMIPUR, Dec 20: A man has been fined Tk 5,000 for organising a campaign rally in favour of a BNP candidate in violation of the electoral code of conduct in Laxmipur-2 (Raipur and parts of Sadar) constituency.
The district administration confirmed the development on Friday night.
Earlier in the afternoon, a rally was organised on the field of Madhya Char Ramoni Mohan Government Primary School in Sadar Upazila in support of BNP candidate Abul Khair Bhuiyan.
Executive Magistrate Hasan Mohammad Nahid Sheikh Suman, who was on duty, conducted a mobile court and fined Abdur Rahim Tk 5,000 for arranging the event without permission.
Besides, allegations of breaching the electoral code of conduct against local UP member Nayon Begum have been sent to the assistant returning officer for further action.
According to the Election Commission's code of conduct, no candidate or supporter is allowed to arrange rallies, processions or public gatherings without prior permission from the authorities after the election schedule is announced. Any such event without approval is considered a direct violation of the electoral code.
Executive Magistrate Hasan Mohammad Nahid Sheikh Suman said, the administration is maintaining a strict stance regarding violations of election rules. Legal action will be taken against anyone found breaching the code in future, he added.
