Nominations of three candidates cancelled in Tangail-1

 
MADHUPUR, TANGAIL, Jan 3: Three candidates in Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari) have had their nomination papers cancelled in the first phase of scrutiny for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharifa Haque announced the decision after a day-long verification session held at her office on Friday. 

Scrutiny was conducted from 10 am to 3:30 pm in the presence of Additional DC (General) Sanjay Kumar Mohanto, Senior District Election Officer Mohammad Tajul Islam, and other officials.

Sharifa Haque said the nominations of Advocate Mohammad Ali, an independent candidate and BNP rebel, independent candidate Montaz Ali, and Md Harunur Rashid of Islami Andolan Bangladesh were cancelled due to inconsistencies in documents and voter information.

Meanwhile, six other nominations were rejected in different constituencies of Tangail.

In Tangail-1, the nominations of Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapon of BNP, retired Lt Col Asadul Islam Azad as an independent candidate, Abdullahil Kafi of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Advocate Mohammad Elias Hossain Moni of Jatiya Party were declared valid.
Across the district, 14 candidates were cleared in the first phase of scrutiny.
