At least four houses were gutted in a fire that broke out at Poladanga village under Bholahat upazila in Chapainawabganj District on Sunday afternoon.

According to local sources, the fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit while a mobile phone was being charged inside one of the houses, and the blaze spread quickly to adjacent houses due to the use of combustible materials.

Being informed, Fire Service and Civil Defence officials rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after efforts.

No casualties were reported as residents managed to move to safety. However, household belongings, including furniture, food items and cash worth around Tk 9 lakh, were damaged in the fire.

Officials visited the area and assured the victims of assistance. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, added an official.
