Former Bangladesh captain and current national selection panel member Habibul Bashar Sumon has been approached by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to consider taking over as the country’s next chief selector, with the contract of incumbent Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu set to expire at the end of February, BCB sources confirmed the development.

It was learned that Bashar has sought two weeks to think through the proposal before giving his final decision. The former captain is presently serving as the BCB’s in-charge of the Game Development Department.

Lipu, meanwhile, is understood to be preparing to step aside once his two-year term formally ends later this month.
