NARAYANGANJ, Feb 20: One hundred and fifty additional personnel have been deployed to ease traffic congestion in Narayanganj City during the holy month of Ramadan.

These personnel have been recruited with the support of the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BKMEA, and Narayanganj City Corporation. They are working at the points where severe traffic jams usually occur, and as a result, the city has remained free of gridlock since the beginning of the holy month.

On Thursday afternoon, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Munshi and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Hossain distributed volunteer uniforms to those deployed on the Shaheed Zia Hall premises in Chashara, the heart of the city. Vice-president of BKMEA and the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Morshed Sarwar Sohel, along with senior officials from various business organisations and the administration, were present at the time.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Hossain said that severe traffic congestion occurs at several points due to illegal stands and various shops set up on the roads. Mobile court drives will be conducted at those points. No one will be allowed to do business by placing vans or anything else on the road. Politicians and business leaders all agree on this matter. This activity will continue to restore order in the city.

Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Munshi said that, as in previous years, additional personnel have been deployed at the city's traffic congestion points during the holy month of Ramadan. In addition to 70 police members from the traffic division, 150 personnel will be on duty with the support of the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BKMEA, and the Narayanganj City Corporation.
