BGB deployed at fuel depots nationwide

The government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel at key fuel depots and appointed “tag officers” at filling stations to ensure smooth supply and prevent hoarding amid global market uncertainty.

Since March 25, BGB officials have been stationed at 19 depots across nine districts, including Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Cumilla, under directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The deployment comes as rising global oil prices and supply concerns linked to the Middle East crisis fuel fears of unauthorised stockpiling.

Operating from temporary base camps, BGB teams are conducting regular monitoring, enforcing security measures, and strengthening intelligence surveillance to prevent illegal storage, sales, and possible sabotage.

At the same time, government-appointed “tag officers” are overseeing fuel distribution at filling stations, ensuring compliance and reporting irregularities.

BGB Headquarters’ Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the information through a press release issued on Saturday.

Officials said enhanced coordination and increased security presence are expected to stabilise fuel distribution and maintain public confidence.
