5 shops gutted in N’ganj fire

Five shops were gutted in a fire at a market in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj. 

The fire broke out at around 10:30 PM on Wednesday in the market in front of Kazi Fazlul Haque Women's College in Habibpur area of Mograpara union of the upazila. 

On information, two units of Sonargaon Fire Service brought the blaze under control after about an hour.

Sonargaon Fire Service Sub-Station Officer Osman Gani said, "Our two units tried for about an hour to bring the fire under control. However, the extent of the damage could not be assessed." 

Sonargaon Police Station OC Md. Mohibullah said, after receiving the information, police members went to the spot and worked with the fire service to control the fire.

Reportedly the fire broke out due to a sudden short circuit in an electricity transformer. 

Five shops including a poultry farm, library, sanitary and ice cream warehouse in the market were burnt down in the fire.
