Ex-law minister Shafique Ahmed laid to rest

Former law minister and veteran jurist Shafique Ahmed was laid to rest at the Azimpur graveyard in the evening, following two funeral prayers in Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, his body was brought to the Supreme Court premises, his long-time workplace, where colleagues and admirers paid their final respects.

A funeral prayer was held at the apex court's Inner Garden at 2pm.

The prayer was attended by Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, current and former judges and a large number of lawyers.

Before the prayer, Asaduzzaman spoke on the life and legacy of the veteran lawyer.

Other speakers included Appellate Division Justice SM Emdadul Hoque, Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and the late minister's son Mahbub Shafique.
