A two-member delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun a series of meetings in Dhaka ahead of this week's Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, with the visitors engaging both current and former cricket administrators amid continuing debate over the Board's recent restructuring.

The delegation, comprising senior cricket administrators from South Africa and Zimbabwe, arrived in the capital to assess the situation surrounding the BCB and gather first-hand information on the upcoming election process.

The ICC representatives have already met members of the current BCB administration, led by ad-hoc committee chairman Tamim Iqbal. They are also scheduled to hold discussions with officials from the previous Board, indicating an effort to hear views from all sides before submitting their observations to the ICC.

The visit comes at a crucial time for Bangladesh cricket. The country's cricket administration has been undergoing a transition since the previous Board was dissolved earlier this year and replaced by an ad-hoc committee tasked with overseeing the game and organising fresh elections.

The move generated significant discussion within cricket circles, with supporters arguing that reforms were necessary to restore confidence in the governance structure, while critics questioned the process that led to the change in leadership.

Against that backdrop, the ICC delegation's visit is being viewed as an important step in understanding the circumstances surrounding the transition and ensuring that the election is conducted in accordance with accepted governance standards.

The election, scheduled for June 7, will determine the composition of the next BCB board and shape the future direction of cricket administration in Bangladesh. A number of candidates have already secured positions unopposed, while contests remain in several categories, including regional and club representatives.

The ICC visitors are expected to meet election officials and other stakeholders before concluding their trip. Their findings will be presented to the ICC Board, although the world governing body has not publicly indicated any concerns regarding Bangladesh's status as a member nation.

For now, attention remains firmly fixed on the election, which will mark the next phase in Bangladesh cricket's administrative transition. With the ICC closely monitoring developments and stakeholders presenting their respective positions, the outcome of both the election and the delegation's assessment could play an important role in shaping the governance landscape of Bangladesh cricket in the months ahead.
