
NARAYANGANJ, June 4: A seven-day programme schedule featuring a rare photograph exhibition, painting competition, blood donation drive, book fair and tree fair has been launched by the Narayanganj District Council to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
The events were inaugurated on Thursday by District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Professor Mamun Mahmud.
A painting competition was held at the District Council auditorium at 10 am with the participation of more than 50 children from different educational institutions.
Later at noon, a rare photograph exhibition of Ziaur Rahman, a blood donation programme organised by the Red Crescent, a book fair organised by the Zia Smriti Pathagar, and a tree fair organised by the Nursery Association were jointly inaugurated on the District Council premises.
Organisers said the programmes will continue for seven days.
Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Mamun Mahmud said Ziaur Rahman had worked for the welfare of the country and the nation, and his followers continue to remember him with respect even 45 years after his death, upholding his guidance, values and ideals.
He said the children participating in the painting competition expressed their feelings and thoughts about Ziaur Rahman through their artwork.
He added that the exhibitions and fairs, including rare photographs, books and saplings, would remain open for visitors over the next seven days.
Among others present at the event were Narayanganj City BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, District BNP Joint Convener Mashikur Islam Rajib, Fatullah Thana BNP President Shahidul Islam Titu, District Jubo Dal Member Secretary Mashiur Rahman Roni, District Mahila Dal President Rahima Sharif Maya, and BNP leader Riam Mohammad Chowdhury.
