Mauritius set to reopen labour mkt for BD

The labour market for Bangladeshi workers in Mauritius, which had remained closed for a period, is set to reopen as the two countries have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon on manpower recruitment and employment.

The agreement was made during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Minister for Labour and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Mauritius’ Minister of Labour Mohammad Reza Kassam Uteem on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday .

The meeting was held at the conference room of the United Nations Office in Geneva, where the two sides discussed the current situation of Bangladeshi workers in Mauritius, reopening the labour market, and future cooperation between the two countries.
