CU gets 2 new pro-vice chancellors

Government has appointed Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin and Prof Dr Md Shafiqul Islam as the new Pro-Vice Chancellors (Academic) and Pro-Vice Chancellors (Administration) respectively of Chittagong University (CU).

The appointments were made through separate notifications issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, signed by Assistant Secretary Md Sultan Ahmed on behalf of the President.

Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Science and a professor at the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, has been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic). He previously served as President of the Nationalist Teachers' Forum at the university.

Prof Dr Md Shafiqul Islam, a professor of the Department of Political Science and currently serving as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kishoreganj University, has been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration).

According to the official notifications, both appointments will remain effective for four years from the date of joining or until their retirement, whichever comes earlier.

They will receive salaries and allowances equivalent to their existing positions and enjoy other benefits in accordance with relevant rules. They have also been instructed to reside on the university campus on a full-time basis.

The notifications further stated that the newly appointed pro-vice chancellors will exercise powers and perform duties as prescribed by the university's Act and Statutes and as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.

The President, who is also the Chancellor of the university, retains the authority to revoke the appointments at any time if deemed necessary.
