Jamaat proposes shadow budget of Tk 8.39T

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed an shadow budget of Tk 8,39,505 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year though they proposed to declared calendar budget from next year. 

The party has given the highest priority to public administration, loan interest payments, and the education and technology sectors in its proposed budget.

The proposed budget was presented at a press conference on Tuesday at the Al Falah Auditorium in Maghbazar. The event was organised as part of Jamaat’s “shadow budget proposal” programme.

The budget was presented by Saiful Islam Khan, a member of the Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-12 constituency.

According to the budget proposal, the largest allocation has been made for the public administration sector. A total of Tk 2,22,455 crore has been allocated, which is 24.09 per cent of the total budget.

The second-largest allocation has been proposed for the education and technology sector. This sector would receive Tk 1,25,575 crore, or 14.96 per cent of the total budget.

The budget review shows that a large amount has been allocated for loan interest payments. Jamaat has proposed Tk 1,27,500 crore for interest payments, which is 15.19 per cent of the total budget.

For the transport and communication sector, Tk 65,340 crore has been allocated. This represents 7.78 per cent of the budget and is aimed at improving the country's communication system.

The agriculture sector has been allocated Tk 51,670 crore, or 6.15 per cent of the budget, to help ensure food security.
For social security and welfare programmes, Tk 48,150 crore has been proposed. This is 5.74 per cent of the total budget and is intended to support poor and vulnerable people.

The health sector would receive Tk 45,240 crore, which accounts for 5.39 per cent of the budget.
Another Tk 45,220 crore, or 5.39 per cent, has been allocated for local government and rural development to strengthen grassroots development.

Among other sectors, Tk 43,462 crore has been allocated for defence, representing 5.18 per cent of the budget, to help protect the country's sovereignty.

The public order and security sector has been allocated Tk 34,457 crore, or 4.10 per cent, to maintain law and order.

For the energy and power sector, Jamaat has proposed Tk 24,950 crore, which is 2.97 per cent of the total budget, to support industry and production.

The total budget deficit, including grants, is estimated at Tk 1,68,329 crore.

Excluding grants, the budget deficit is estimated at Tk 1,73,579 crore.
