The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened surveillance along the frontier by deploying thermal drones, intensifying patrols and launching awareness campaigns for border residents, at a time when a delegation of Bangladesh’s border force attends a four-day conference at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi.

At the meeting, Bangladesh raised key concerns, including border killings and alleged push-in attempts. The BGB said there have been recent incidents of “illegal push-ins”, involving individuals including women and children, through different border points into Bangladesh. It reiterated that such matters must be handled in accordance with international norms and that repatriation of citizens should follow proper procedures.

Meanwhile, tensions escalated in Jamalpur as the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly made another attempt to push people into Bangladesh. The incident occurred around midnight on Monday in the Kumarchar area near the Bagharchor border under Dewanganj upazila.

According to BGB-35 Battalion and local residents, the BSF has made repeated attempts in recent days to push individuals across different border points in the area. On Monday night, the BSF reportedly switched off searchlights near the Bagharchor and Patharer Char borders in Kumarchar in an attempt to push 18 individuals into Bangladesh.

However, the attempt was foiled due to heightened vigilance by the BGB and local residents. The incident triggered fresh tension and panic along the border. Villagers, armed with sticks, joined BGB personnel and took positions along the frontier to secure the area.

This followed a similar incident on Sunday night, when BGB and locals blocked an attempt to push eight individuals through the Boraibari border point.

Reports suggest that multiple such attempts have been made over the past few days along the Jamalpur border, all of which were thwarted due to heightened alertness by BGB troops and local cooperation.
