BFF forms twin probe committees

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has set up two separate investigation committees following controversies surrounding the national women's team's recent overseas campaign, where Bangladesh once again fell at the final hurdle and returned home as runners-up.

One of the committees is looking into matters arising from the team's performance and activities during the tournament, while the other has been tasked with examining allegations involving team manager Khalid Mahmud Naomi. The latter inquiry follows a disciplinary letter reportedly sent by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) concerning an alleged breach of conduct during the competition.

To investigate the matter, BFF has appointed executive committee member Kamrul Islam Hilton as chairman of a three-member panel. The committee's member-secretary is the federation's legal officer, while another member has been drawn from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.

The two incidents under scrutiny occurred outside Bangladesh, making the investigation process more complex. Officials are expected to speak with various stakeholders and collect documentary evidence before reaching any conclusions.

Although both committees have formally been instructed to submit their reports within a week, federation sources indicate that the deadline may prove ambitious. Gathering testimonies from individuals based abroad and securing relevant evidence is likely to take additional time.

With questions lingering off the pitch after disappointment on it, the federation now faces the task of ensuring that every stone is turned and every fact is established before decisions are made. As the dust settles on another campaign that ended in heartbreak, BFF hopes the investigations will provide clarity and help safeguard the integrity of the national setup moving forward.
