Book reading enhances knowledge removing ignorance: Speakers

RANGPUR, Mar 20: Book- reading habit always enhances knowledge by removing ignorance and immorality from the mindset of everybody to enlighten the society and common people as well as the nation as a whole.
Noted literary and socio-cultural personalities expressed the view in the inaugural ceremony of the 19-day Rangpur Book Fair- 2017 today afternoon on the Public Library ground in the city.
Sommilito Lekhok Samaj (SLS) has been organising the book fair where 33 stalls have been set up by 16 publication houses including 13 from Dhaka, Littlemag and other literary organisations from Rangpur as well as the capital city.
The visitors can purchase novels, story books and collections of poems, books for the children and other popular books recently displayed in the Ekushey Book Fair- 2017 in the capital city.
Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon in the launching ceremony as the chief guest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Ruhul Amin Mian, Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin, General Secretary of Rangpur Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick, President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber Rezaul Islam Milan, Principal Adviser of the "Sahittyer Kakoj Mouchak" Rezaul Karim Mukul were present as special guests.
Presided over by Convener of Rangpur Book Fair- 2017 Sayeed Sahedul Islam, its Member-secretary Rezaul Karim Jiban moderated the ceremony participated by literary and cultural personalities, academicians, researchers and elite of the city.
The chief guest said the book fair would be able to create interests among the common people, especially young generations, in book-reading, literary and cultural activities to enrich our cultural and literary heritage.
He put special emphasis on arranging such events frequently to generate interests among the common people by bridging them with books to encourage in acquiring knowledge for building an enlightened and more civilised society.     �BSS
