Veteran actor Mahmud Sajjad has died at Evercare Hospital in the capital. He was 73.

He died while undergoing treatment there at about 3:30pm on Sunday (Oct 24).
Mahmud Sajjad left behind his wife Mamtaz Begum and two sons--Upal and Anjan--to mourn his death.

The death of Mahmud Sajjad was confirmed by his younger brother M Hamid.

M Hamid said his brother Mahmud Sajjad died at 3:30pm. He also requested all to pray for the eternal peace of his brother's departed soul.

Earlier on September 1, Mahmud Sajjad was admitted to Evercare Hospital. He was a Covid-19 positive patient. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Then he was tested Covid-19 negative. But, he was shifted to the ICU again due to post-Covid complications. He was at the ICU for long 54 days. Subsequently, he left all forever on Sunday.

Mahmud Sajjad first acted in Zahir Raihan's movie 'Sangsar'. Babita also acted for the first time in that film. He also acted in Zahir Raihan's "Le There Be Light," "Spartacus," and 'Janak.' Later, he acted in many films. He was also involved with acting in televsion and stage theatre.

After finishing his university study, he acted in many plays on stage under the banner of Natyachakro. Mahmud Sajjad also acted in Zahir Raihan's 'Sangsar' (1968), Khan Ataur Rahman's 'Jharer Pankhi', 'Apon Por,' 'Priyojon' (1996) and 'Swami Strir Wada' (2009).

He first acted in TV serial 'Sakal-Sandhya.' He also acted in more than 1,000 dramas on televison.

Among five brothers of Mahmud Sajjad, M Hamid was the former director general of Bangladesh Television. His younger brother KM Khalid, an MP from Mymensingh-5 constituency, is the State Minister for Cultural Affairs.
