Mass vaccination campaign extended till Feb 28

The countrywide mass vaccination campaign for administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines will continue till February 28.

"Bangladesh has set the day-long nationwide campaign that began at 8am this morning aiming to vaccinate one crore people but the authorities has extended the drive for two days to bring all eligible people under first dose of
vaccination coverage," Health Minister Zahid Maleque said on Saturday at a virtual function held at Manikganj district.
Second and booster dose will continue alongside the mass vaccination campaign, he said, adding, "I hope that over one crore people will receive COVID-19 jabs in today's campaign... Bangladesh has created a milestone progress for administering coronavirus vaccines to huge number of people in a single day."

"We are seeing that people thronged vaccination centres and booths for receiving coronavirus jabs, which will create a good impact for containing the spread of the deadly virus," the health minister added.

The country on Saturday rolled out another phase of its mass vaccination campaign, aiming to cover a whopping 10 million people.

Some 6.55 million vaccine shots will be provided at different levels on Saturday -- 4.14 million doses in 13,800 wards of the upazilas, 0.324 million doses in 1,068 wards of municipalities, and 2.0925 million shots in 465 wards across cities.

Besides, 3.5 million vaccine doses will be provided to special communities, including workers at factories, markets, restaurants, boats, launches and ships, brick kilns and other floating communities.

Since the inauguration of the mass inoculation drive in Bangladesh on February 7 last year, some 8,19,39,878 people have been fully vaccinated with two shots and  10,958,331 people received their first doses till Friday (February 25). Besides, 3,59,826 people have received booster doses.
