The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel arrested three persons in the capital for their alleged involvement in importing fake cancer-fighting and infertility drugs from China and seized 40,000 strips of drugs from their possession early Friday.
The arrestees are Ruhul Amian alias Dulal Chowdhury, 46, Nikhil Rajbangsi, 44, and Md Sayeed. The law enforcers nabbed them from Tantibazar area in separate drives.
"These drugs are deadly and could cause death if taken," Mollah Nazrul Islam, special superintendent of police (organised crime), said in a press briefing held at CID headquarters.
During the primary interrogation, the three detainees confessed to their involvement in the crime, the official said, adding that a total of 40,000 strips of three kinds of drugs, kept inside a sack, were seized from them.
Mollah Nazrul Islam said a number of counterfeit drugs are manufactured in China and an illegal syndicate used to import them under the guise of importing electronic equipment.
CID filed a case against the trio with Kotwali Police Station on the day.
