A student of Rajshahi University School and Collage was sent to jail on Tuesday allegedly for beating the principal of the collage on Monday night.
The student was identified as Ihsanul Alam Joy, a tenth-grader of the collage, and also the son of Rajshahi University philosophy department Professor Jahangir Alam.
Collage principal Shafiul Alam said that Joy went to his office on Monday at 8 pm and asked him to stop the annual sport programmes of the collage as he was dropped out from sports.
At one stage of altercation between them, Joy started beating up the principal as he tried to calm Joy who was vandalizing the office room, the principal alleged.
Following the incident, the principal along with one of the staff of the collage kept the student locked in his office room. Later, RU proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman handed over Joy to the police, sources said.
The principal alleged that Joy earlier threatened the collage teachers several times of killing. Joy takes drugs regularly, and was detained on December 31 last year allegedly for mugging, the principal said.
Admitting that his son was mentally sick, RU philosophy department Professor Jahangir Alam said that he heard that Joy locked into an altercation with the collage principal in the play-ground. But, he did not know what exactly happened there, he added.
RU proctor Professor Lutfor Rahman told that, being informed, he handed over the student to police.
Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station said that they sent Joy to jail, after producing him before a Rajshahi court, showing arrest in a case filed by collage principal in this connection.
