Unseasonal watermelon startles Rajshahi buyers

Though the price of the unseasonal watermelon was high but there were many interested buyers on Friday.

The watermelons were red inside, though small in size. It was sold at Tk 50 per kg and was sold out within two hours, leaving many customers hopeless.

Afzal Hossain and Belal Hossain of Chayurbari village of Atrai upazila, who came to sell watermelons in Bhabaniganj bazaar, said they bought the watermelons from Rangamati.

They sold them at Tk 2,000 per maund, and had a profit of around four to five hundred taka per maund.

They also said they imported a small quantity considering that the buyers would not like the untimely fruit. But witnessing buyers’ interest, they decided to import more watermelons.
