Godagari farmers make profit in garlic production

The Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Godagari, Ashraful Islam, said the farmers of this region are interested in cultivating crops using modern technology. Beside rice and wheat cultivation, they are involving in garlic cultivation.

Godagari Agriculture Extension Officer Moryam Ahmed said the Agriculture Department has been providing training to the farmers of this region for expansion of spice crops.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension sources, Rafiqul Islam, a local farmer of Pirizpur village of Matikata union of the upazila, succeeded in producing garlic in 10 kathas of land in 2016.

In 2017, he planted garlic in three bighas of land after cutting aus paddy. The cost of cultivating garlic in 3 bighas of land was Tk 54 thousand, and he sold the produce at Tk 1,16,000. Making Tk 62,000 profit, he cultivated garlic on 6 bighas land this year investing Tk 1,50,000.

Garlic cultivator Rafiqul Islam said he knew about the method of producing garlic without any cultivation from Ashraful Islam, the deputy assistant agricultural officer of the Bidirpur block. The field level officer gave various suggestions by observing regularly till Rafiqul Islam was getting perfect production of garlic.

Godagari Agriculture Officer Shafiqul Islam said the quality of the soil in this region is so good that any crop will be cultivated. The Department of Agricultural Extension is encouraging farmers to cultivate such crop that benefits them.
