The first storm of the season has caused extensive damage to the mango yards of Rajshahi.
The storm went through the surrounding area centering Rajshahi Metropolitan area that started from 3pm on Friday, lasted for about 30 minutes.
However, no casualties were reported in the first storm of the season. The city dwellers have been routed in the dust storm. And there has been severe damage to crops in the rural areas. Especially due to the storm, mango buds fell from the trees in many areas.
After the Jumaa prayers, there was cloud in the sky. Suddenly, there started dust storm. Signboards of many areas, cable connections were severed. There were also a few cases of thunderstorms. Meanwhile, after the storm began, electricity was snapped in Rajshahi.
According to the Rajshahi Meteorological Office, the speed of the wind was 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. But there was more speed at some place.
Abdus Salam, the director of Rajshahi Meteorological Office, said that although the storm was blowing, it was not Kalboishekhi. Generally, if the speed of the wind is 20 nautical miles, then it is called Kalboshekhi.
But during the storm on Friday, the speed of the storm in Rajshahi was only 8 nautical miles. At the end of the storm there was little rain in the area around the metropolis.
