A group of demonstrators of Rajshahi University (RU), who were demanding reform in quota allotment in government job, declared to continue the movement, while the leaders of RU quota reform-seekers postponed the movement.
The two groups on Tuesday arranged separate press conferences on the campus.
Umme Kulsum Kony, a final year student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department in a press briefing, held at the backside of Central Library at 2pm, declared the continuation of the movement.
Kony said they do not accept the central committee's decision of the quota reform movement. They will continue the movement till the demand is fulfilled. Students will hold a sit-in program in front of the central library on Wednesday at 11am Wednesday. The class-boycotting program will also continue till the demand is made.
Earlier, the leaders of the RU demonstrators organized a press conference at 1:30 pm. Committee's Convener Masud Munnaf said, “There is no relation between this committee and those who are now in movement. We have postponed the movement till May 7. So the activities of our committee would be postponed till that time. If the government does not accept our demand within 7 May, then we will resume the movement.”
Earlier, at 11 am, the students resume agitation at the university. They started gathering in front of the university's central library from 11am deserting classes. From there, students took positions at Zoha Square. At that time, the protesters gave slogans demanding quota reform.
