
Three women were detained on Sunday in connection with the death of Child Tamim in Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on April 26.
The arrested are the victim’s two aunts Sonia Khatun, 14, Rabeya Khatun, 22 and grandmother Nargis Begum, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shahidullah in a press conference on Monday.
The police superintendent said Sonia, in the police interrogation on Sunday night, has confessed to be involved in the death of the boy.
The body of Tamim was found in a heap of ash on Saturday night. The next day, Tamim's father filed a murder case with Godagari Police Station. Later, two aunts and grandmother of Tamim were brought to police station for questioning.
At the press conference on Monday, Shahidullah told the reporters that Sonia said in her confession that she was working with Tamim beside their house on April 26. Inadvertently, Tamim was hit by a sharp weapon. Within two to three minutes, Tamim died on the spot. Panicked Sonia informed her mother Nargis Begum and elder sister Rabeya Khatun of the matter. Nargis Begum and her two daughters hid Tamim's body in a heap of ashes.
Later, when Tamim’s mother searched for Tamim, Sonia said that Tamim might have been kidnapped. Tamim’s father hired megaphones in search of missing Tamim. Later, Sonia noticed the in the garbage heap.
On April 27, Tamim's father Rasel filed a murder case against unknown persons with Godagari police station. Later, police inspected the spot and suspiciously brought grandmother Nargis, her two daughters, Rabeya and Sonia to police station for interrogation. In the interrogation, Sonia disclosed the matter.
The Superintendent of Police also said that since the case has been filed and the accused has confessed the entire matter, they will now be produced before the court by arresting them. But whether it was planned killing or happened accidently, will be investigated.
