
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Shramik Somity leaders and employees organized a protest procession in Rajshahi Nagar Bhaban area at 11 am on Monday demanding payment of three months’ arrear wages.
The organization's president Dulal Hossain and general secretary Ajmeri Ahmed Mamun said in their speeches that the main gate of the RCC office building of Nagar Bhaban was locked on July 9 last year, for the payment of arrear wages of Tk 40 lakh and to press home their 11-point demand.
The RCC authorities assured them of meeting the demands. The leaders claimed that all demands were not met, and payment of 3 months’ wages is left still overdue, pushing the workers to take to the streets.
They said, if the employees are not paid dues, then all the pleasures of upcoming Eid will be dull.
RCC Sramik Union leaders said that if the demand is not fulfilled, the protest program will be resumed after Eid.
The 11-point demand includes: Increasing wage in accordance with the Finance Department's circular, posting on the basis of seniority of the permanent employees, arranging bank loans for the construction of permanent employees’ residences, giving employment to deceased and retired employees, provide jobs to the dependents of dead and retired employees, stop permanent settlement of employees, stop suspension, and reinstatement of dismissed people, to arrange recruitment to organizational structures, regularization of wage-based employees, final approval for the implementation of welfare fund, and clothing for permanent employees, shoes and umbrellas must be paid.
