Students of Rajshahi University formed a human chain on the campus on Wednesday morning demanding gazette notification by Thursday abolishing the quota system in public service.
The hour-long human chain was held under the banner of general students on Paris Road of RU at around 11am.
Students in the human chain said they suspended the movement after the announcement by the Prime Minister. But after one month, no notification has been issued in this regard.
Students also said the quota system in Bangladesh is highly discriminatory. Although being relatively less qualified than a non-quota person, many quota-holders are employed in different jobs and opportunities. If this happens then the country will once again fall in a crisis of talents.’
The students announced that they will continue the movement till the gazette notification is published.
Quota reformist of RU unit convener Msud Munnaf, a student of Islamic Studies, presided over the human chain where Arifuzzaman, student of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Salahuddin Sayem, a Master's student of history department also spoke at the program.
