A man has been beaten by locals on allegation of attempting to rape a minor girl in Shahpur area of Katakhali upazila in Rajshahi district.
Ashiq, 25, is the son of Ainal, a resident of Belgariya Para of the upazila, attempted to rape the fourth-grader, said Katakhali Police Station officer in-charge Mehedi Hasan.
Quoting family members, the OC said the girl went to bring water from a tube well beside their house around 9:30pm on Wednesday. Ashik took him forcibly in a nearby garden and tried to violate her.
Hearing hue and cry, locals rescued the girl and beat up the accused, the OC added.
