A student of Rajshahi University allegedly stabbed by an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Wednesday night for protesting the harassment of his female friend.
Injured Saiful Islam Hridoy, a masters' student of RU Marketing Department, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Witnesses said BCL activists Md Hamza and his two followers teased Hridoy's female friend in the evening while they were sitting in front of the third science building of the university.
They left the place as Hridoy protested them.
But, later, they attacked Hridoy behind the building around 7:45pm while he was alone. They stabbed him, leaving him wounded.
Local people caught Hamza from the spot and informed police. But two others managed to flee the scene.
UNB adds: BCL RU unit vice president Saddam Hossain was seen saving Hamza from police. He snatched Hamza from the police and sent him to the university medical centre. He also refused Hamza from saying anything when journalista went to speak with Hamza.
Contacted, Saddam Hossain said that Hamza was known to him earlier, but denied the allegation of saving him. "When I was assured that Hamza was lying on the ground, I just sent him to medical centre for his treatment," he added.
