
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Rajshahi Metropolitan (RMP) Police arrested at least 127 people in separate raids during the special anti-drug drive in Rajshahi on Tuesday night.
RAB said at least 50 people were arrested in the anti-drug drive, all of whom were drug addicts. Meanwhile, legal action was taken against everyone arrested in police operations.
RMP spokesman Iftekhaar Alam said, the RMP police and Detective Branch (DB) arrested 49 people. On the other hand, district police spokesman Abdur Razzak Khan said, 28 people were arrested.
RAB-5, in a press release, said 13 drug addicts were arrested on Sunday night from Gurbipara area of the city and Baneshwar area of Puthia upazila.
A total of 48 people were sentenced to different jail terms through mobile courts and two were fined Tk 10 thousand.
