Candidates submitted nomination papers for Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election at Rajshahi Regional Election Office on Thursday, the last day of submitting their nomination papers.
Candidates submitted their nomination papers in a festive atmosphere along with their supporters giving slogans for the candidates. Outgoing RCC Mayor Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul, backed by BNP, submitted nomination paper flanked by party leaders.
Rajshahi city Awami League President and former RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton came to submit his nomination papers at the EC office at around 12pm. AL leaders Shahin Akhtar Reni, general secretary W Sarkar, Jadu Sarkar, language movement veteran Abul Hossain, Mahfuzur Rahman Loton and teachers’ leader Kamruzzaman were also present at that time.
A total of 3,18,138 voters -- 1,56,085 male voters and 1,62,053 female voters -- will cast their votes at 137 polling stations in the RCC election.
The RCC election will be held on July 30 following scrutiny of nomination papers on July 1-2 and the last day of withdrawal of candidacy July 9.
