Rajshahi Mahila Technical Training Center (TTC) is making women self-reliant in the economically backward Rajshahi region.
Over the years, more than 100 women entrepreneurs have successfully come out from the institution. Besides, 750 women have gone abroad with training. In addition, there are hundreds of women doing job or doing business after training.
However, the latest Economic Census of Bangladesh Statistics Bureau says that as a entrepreneur, the women of Rajshahi are still lagging behind. In Rajshahi, 6,452 women have their own business.
According to the 2013 survey of employment of women in four thanas and nine upazilas of the district, 7,690 women working in boalia thana of Rajshahi city. This is the highest among the other thanas and upazilas of the district.
A total of 6,041 women in Paba, 5,897 in Bagmara, 4,650 in Rajpara, 4,468 in Godagari, 3,976 in Puthia, 3,798 in Mohanpur, 3,376 in Tanore, 3,316 in Bagha, 3,787 in Baghmara, 1,890 in Durgapur, 898 Shahmakhdum, and 700 women are working in Motihar thana area. Number of women workers has increased due to ensuring safe working environment.
The female TTC office sources say 703 women have taken one month's house keeping training from here. About 99 percent of them women went abroad. Not only women but also 7,115 men have gone abroad after training three-day pre-deportation courses.
On the other hand, many of the 48 women, who passed the Women Entrepreneur Development Course of SAFE BWCCI project, have become mostly entrepreneurs.
Last year, 400 women were admitted in the course of the step project, and 378 passed out. Of them, 40 percent started business as women entrepreneurs. Besides, 15 percent women are working in different organizations.
A total of 304 people were admitted last year in regular and self-help courses. Over half of the 277 women got involved in business. And 20 percent of women got jobs in different institutions.
