Freedom fighters organized a human chain protesting at the attack on the family of fellow Saidur Rahman on Eid day, and demanding punishment for the attackers.
The human chain was organized at the Rajshai city's Shahib Bazar Zero point at around 10am on Sunday. Freedom fighter Saidur Rahman and his family members were also present on the occasion.
The programme was presided over by Rajshahi city freedom fighters commander Abdul Mannan, Central command council member advocate Abdul Matin, city Awami League vice president freedom fighter Mohammad Ali Kamal, city Awami League vice-chairman Mir Iqbal, city Muktijoddha Command executive officer Professor Ruhul Amin Pramanik.
Hira allegedly assaulted Saidur Rahman and his wife Hosne Ara Rahman and sister-in-law Sahara Mustafa with a gun on Eid day. After receiving the news, police rescued them and arrested the attacker Hira and took him to the police station. The victims were given treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Saidur Rahman filed a case with the Boalia Police Station as the plaintiff. Accused Hira was sent to jail. However, he got bail from the court on June 18.
Speakers demanded exemplary punishment of Shibir activist Hira through trial. Otherwise, the children of freedom fighters and freedom fighters of Rajshahi will be forced to wage a greater movement, they threatened.
