An eight-year-old child committed suicide in her bed room by hanging herself in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi on Friday morning.
The deceased, Bithi Khatun, 8, daughter of Imamul Haque, was resident of Naotika village of the upazila. Bithi Khatun was a fourth-grade student of the local primary school.
Local sources said, on Friday morning, Bithi’s mother, Ranu Begum, rebuked her daughter for not sitting for study instead playing with her friends.
At this, Bithi closed the door of her room and committed suicide by hanging herself from ceiling with a scarf.
Bagha police Officer In-Charge (OC) Rezaul Hasan said it is unusual for such a child to commit suicide.
However, on information, the body was recovered and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
