A man was arrested on Saturday noon on charge of killing his wife through torture at Durgapur upazila in Rajshahi.
The deceased was identified as Rozufa Begum, 35, daughter of Faroz Uddin, resident of Ganakara village of the upazila. The detainee is Abul Hossain, son of late Yunus Ali of the area.
Local and police sources said, Rozufa had been suffering from mental illness for a long time due to Abul Hossain’s second marriage.
Abul Hossain and his second wife tortured Rozufa time and again in different ways. On Saturday afternoon, Abul Hossain severely beat Rozufa during a family feud. She became unconscious. A village doctor was called, but Rojufa had died before the doctor reached the spot.
Abdul Muttaleeb, Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
At the same time, her husband Abul Hossain was arrested. But Abul Hossain's second wife was not found. A case was filed in this connection, added the OC.
