Members of a union council accused their chairman of misappropriating about 1.5 ton rice allocated for the storm affected families in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
On Monday, the first panel member of the Pakari union, Abdul Hannan, and 11 UP members filed a complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) against the chairman, Rakib Sarker.
According to the complaint, the chairman embezzled 1550 kg of rice allocated for 50 families affected in Kalbaishakhi storm.
The chairman has stopped salary and filled cases against the UP members for protesting the chairman's activities. Members demanded removal of UP Chairman Abdur Rakib through the investigation.
Chairman Rakib Sarkar said, “They are making false allegations against me as I didn't accept the wrong demand to the UP members.
In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shimul Akter said necessary steps will be taken through investigation.
