Students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) held a sit-in program blocking the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway, demanding exemplary punishment for the killer driver of the bus that ran over two students in Dhaka recently.
On Sunday morning, more than two thousand RUET students participated in the program. They announced continuation of the movement boycotting class-tests until the demand was fulfilled.
The students’ six demands for safer Bangladesh are: To ensure safety of all students in the country, enforcement of highest punishment of rapists, implementation of maximum punishment of killers, freedom of speech, transparency of the media and to ensure security for all protester students.
After about two hours, the students ended the sit-in program by announcing the boycott of class-exams.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University (RU) students formed a human chain and silent procession program for the same demand.
Students of Rajshahi University have organized human chain programs for the same demand. The program was held in front of the central library of the university at 12 noon. At the time students announced boycotting class-examinations tomorrow.
During the hour-long program, the students said road accidents are happening in Bangladesh. Drivers are becoming desperate without rules and regulations. But their punishment is not guaranteed fast.
Meanwhile, a procession of anti-repression teachers was held at 1:00 pm for the same demand. More than 50 students from different departments took part in the procession. The rally demanded bringing the attackers on the students to justice.
